bbgm - the discussion: Trying out a new comment system

  • Krish · 2 years ago
I tried out SEZwho for couple of days in the early days. Then I heard about a vulnerability in their plugin. So I moved off. Now I am playing around with Intense Debate on and off. I went for it because it allows openID login. Will let you know how it goes. Buzz me about SEZwho.

PS: I don't see SEZwho in the comment system though.

You should be seeing it now. Let me know if you can't
  • Deepak Singh · 2 years ago
Actually for some reason I don't see it for you ... hmmmm. Do you have some setting on SezWho that turns things off?
  • Mr. Gunn · 2 years ago
I've seen this at VBLS too, and don't see much use for it. Nice that I don't have to re-enter my details, but the comment rating doesn't start to add value until you get up into 50 comments.
  • Deepak Singh · 2 years ago
Very true. It's really only useful if there is a decent volume of comments. Still an experiment, and it doesn't seem to intrusive at least at first glance. It is also portable if you want it to be, so we'll see how it goes.

One extra data point is that it seems to be increasing your page load time by about a half-second or so...which is kinda long, IMO.
  • Deepak Singh · 2 years ago
Thanks for that kind of feedback. Just what I need to know. If I find out that it stays that way, out it goes.

    Deepak,

I am not seeing 1/2 a sec increase in terms of load time? It seems to be more like 200-300ms...

Also check out the profile link? Are you seeing additional page views coming from Sezwho based on the commenter based cross connections?

Also check out the stats page for your blog in your account to see how much usage you are seeing?

    And let me know?

    thanks,
    Jitendra
    SezWho

    Jitendra,

Thanks for dropping by. The catalyst for trying out SezWho was your interview with Scoble. The performance is OK so for. My video and RSS widgets slow things down more IMO. Will monitor usage and see if I am getting anything out of the system.

As for cross connections, I don't see any more myself yet, but that's probably cause all my recent comments have been here. I do see them for others.

BTW, I'm still seeing somewhat long page load times.
I don't think the problem's SezWho, but rather lijit, sphere, blueorganizer, google analytics, feedburner, and SezWho.
Maybe you could move some of the plugins/tracking code to the footer?

/or maybe you could just upgrade from WP 2.ohno!
  • Deepak Singh · 2 years ago
The latter is the preferred solution. I am taking the last 2 weeks of the year off, and upgrading to the latest WP and optimizing load, etc is part of the plan (might even do a new site design).
  • Mr. Gunn · 2 years ago
In the meantime, you might consider putting some of the tracking stuff in footer.php so that at least the main content loads before it has to pause for responses from lijit, feedburner, etc.

I get a chuckle out of watching the status bar as 6 or 7 different sites get contacted while the page loads.

    You chuckle .. I fret :)

Great decision to go with DISQUS. While many of your scientific posts are a bit over my head, I'll be following you on the recomendation of Mary Kennedy of Comprendia. Looking forward to learning more!
